About CMDIS

The broad research vision of the cMDIS is to integrate research capabilities and expertise across the broad spectrum of engineering, physical, chemical sciences at Rensselaer. We are always striving to build a cohesive community equipped to tackle research challenges that are at the forefront of the national agenda and that underpin technological advances that address global economic, security, and sustainability challenges.

The primary mechanisms by which we will realize this vision are:

  1. Creating an integrated intellectual community for faculty, students, postdocs and technical staff across the physical/chemical sciences and engineering fields at Rensselaer.
  2. Operating and maintaining the shared experimental facilities, primarily our cleanroom and characterization core.
  3. Supporting excellence in our existing research strength areas, particularly in our affiliated and integrated centers: the Center for Architectural Science and Ecology (CASE), the Center for Automation Technology Systems (CATS), the Center for Future Energy Systems (CFES), the Focus Center – New York (FC-NY), the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center for Light Enabled Systems and Applications (LESA), the Rensselaer Nanotechnology Core (RNC), and the Scientific Computation Research Center (SCOREC).
  4. Nucleating new areas of intellectual strength through a set of Research Nucleation Workshops.
