Kent has a technical career that has spanned multiple decades and industries.  His professional career began with work in the private railroad industry and progressed to jet engine and aircraft repair in the United States Air Force.  In 1985, Kent joined IBM at their 2” fabrication plant in Manassas, Virginia.  His primary responsibility during that time was as an equipment technician in the lithography and hot process areas.  Several years later, he moved on to IBM East Fishkill and worked within the CCP division in magnetic component quality assurance.  Kent joined IBM’s research and development arm, in 1994, as a quality control and yield technician for the Advanced Semiconductor Technology Center.  In 2002, Kent moved into a manufacturing role with IBM working in yield and process integration within their 300mm fab.

Kent joined Rensselaer in 2006 as an Equipment Engineer and become Interim Director in 2023. His responsibilities also include expanding the cleanroom’s scope and breadth in managing the acquisition, installment, and facilitation of new equipment, materials and processes. Additionally, Kent also serves as the building coordinator for the Low Center for Industrial Innovation.  Away from the cleanroom, Kent enjoys sailing and mountain/rock climbing.
