(Undergraduate) The Hertz Fellowship
(Application deadline: 27.October)
The program provides financial and lifelong professional support for the nation’s most promising graduate students in science and technology. All eligible applicants must be college seniors, first-year graduate students, or in a gap year preparing to apply to graduate school; intend to pursue a PhD in the applied physical and biological sciences, mathematics, or engineering; intend to direct their studies toward understanding and solving major, near-term problems facing society; and be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. IMPRS UFAST offers a structured PhD program focusing on ultra-fast phenomena, X-ray physics and dynamical imaging in all areas of science covering physics, chemistry and biology. Every year, The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans (PD Soros) supports thirty New Americans— immigrants or the children of immigrants—who are pursuing graduate or professional school in the United States. Each Fellowship supports one to two years of graduate study in any field and in any advanced degree-granting program in the United States. Each award is for up to a total of $90,000. Learn more.

GEM offers MS and Ph.D. level students an outstanding opportunity and access to dozens of the top Engineering and Science firms and Universities in the nation. The GEM Fellowship was designed to focus on promoting opportunities for individuals to enter industry at the graduate level in areas such as research and development, product development, and other high level technical careers. GEM also offers exposure to a number of opportunities in academia. Learn more.
(Graduate) Amelia Earhart Fellowship

Globally, women make up around 25 percent of the workforce in the aerospace industry. In an effort to carry out its mission that women have access to all resources and are represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men, Zonta International offers the Amelia Earhart Fellowship. The US$10,000 Fellowship is awarded annually to up to 30 women pursuing Ph.D./doctoral degrees in aerospace engineering and space sciences. It may be used at any university or college offering accredited post-graduate courses and degrees in these fields. Women of any nationality pursuing a Ph.D./doctoral degree who demonstrate a superior academic record conducting research applied to aerospace engineering or space sciences are eligible. Learn more.

Thanks to Kent Way, Sarah An, Leo Yechuan Chen, Chao Yang, Anindita Ghosh, Nimish Nazirkar, Kevin Bhimani, Varad Mahajani, Ratnottam Das, Gaurang Shukla, visitors learned about CMDIS research and facilities, watched demonstrations and visited MNCR virtually. US DoD Awards $40M To NORDTech Hub For Microelectronics Research. The consortium, known as the Northeast Regional Defense Technology Hub (NORDTech), led by NY CREATES, the University at Albany’s College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering (CNSE), Cornell University, Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), and IBM, will bring together academia, industry, and government organizations to help supercharge New York’s booming chips industry to spur innovation, attract new companies, strengthen the workforce, and bolster this industry, which is vital to America’s national security. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Begins Installation of First-Ever IBM Quantum System One on a University Campus. On October 13, 2023, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and IBM held a ceremonial groundbreaking to celebrate the first-ever deployment of an IBM Quantum System One on a university campus. The event, held at the RPI’s Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC), featured a grand reveal of the IBM Quantum System One chandelier, the intricately wired golden structure containing the quantum processor chip. Jonathan Dordick to lead RPI’s efforts to foster entrepreneurialism and start-ups. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has established the Office of Strategic Alliances and Translation, a new area within the university that incorporates a number of key translational activities at RPI, including intellectual property and technology licensing, large-scale corporate partnerships, initiation and growth of start-up ventures, and translational campuses, including the Rensselaer Technology Park, as well as translational activities in New York City.
