cMDIS Confocal Raman Imaging Workshop

cMDIS Confocal Raman Imaging Workshop

You are invited to the Confocal Raman Imaging kindly provided by Witec Instruments and TESCAN. Following a brief backgroun lecture, the speakers will talk recent developments and make demonstrations on selected samples. There will also be a comprehensive session for data analysis. This free one day workshop is a perfect opportunity to incorporate a powerful technique to your research, even if you are beginner or an advanced user to expand your abilities.

This workshop is free and seating is limited. Please follow the link at the end of the page to register. For demonstration sessions, we only can accommodate 4-5 people per session, so during registration, make sure you select your preferred demonstration/training slot.

Coffee / refreshments and light lunch will be provided.

Speakers:
Dr. Wei Liu, Senior Application Scientist, WITec Instruments
David Zapotok, Regional Sales Manager, TESCAN USA
Tavis Ezell, Technical Sales, Witec Instruments

Abstract:
Inspired by a deep held desire to improve science, technology and engineering, WITec Instruments has been pioneering development of novel instrumentation and correlative microscopic techniques for over 20 years.  Recent company innovation and joint collaboration with TESCAN has led to the world’s first combined Raman Imaging and Scanning Electron (RISE) Microscope.
In this talk, the inspiration and engineering behind this and other new instrumentation as well as WITec stand-alone instrument technology such as the current WITec combined Raman/AFM/SNOM system at RPI’s cMDIS will be discussed. An overview of Confocal Raman Spectroscopy and Imaging will provide a platform for our understanding of how and why this technique plays an exciting role in research topics ranging from 2D Materials and Energy Storage Devices to Nanomedicine and Drug Delivery. Through illustration of the usefulness in combining 3D molecular and chemical imaging information from WITec Raman with that of traditional SEM elemental analytical techniques, such as EDX, and others like Fluorescence and FTIR a much more detailed understanding of sample composition and intricate structure-chemistry-function relationship can be explored and correlated for the first time.  By integrating these exciting techniques and others such as Atomic Force Microscopy and Scanning Probe Microscopy, WITec hopes to continue supporting the human quest for scientific discovery and knowledge.
We hope you will join us for this informative event which will also include workshop demonstration of the current WITec Raman microscope at RPI.

Biography: Wei Liu is a Senior Application Scientist at WITec Instruments North America.  He received his B.S. degree in Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China, and Ph.D. degree in Physics from the University of California at Riverside. During graduate study, his research focused on scanning probe microscopy applications and instrumentation design in topics such as: single molecule interaction dynamics by AFM and material characterization with various SPM imaging techniques. Liu joined WITec as an application scientist in 2010 and has expertise is CRM/AFM/SNOM products and applications.
